Chess Editorial Review
Soviet Chess Primer (Chess Classics) is a foundational book that reflects the rich teaching style of classic Soviet chess instruction. It effectively starts from the basics, introducing core concepts and gradually advancing to more complex strategies, making it an invaluable resource for beginners and intermediate players alike. The book includes explanations of vital tactics such as pins and forks, supported by numerous examples that aid in pattern recognition, which is crucial for success in chess. It is praised for its quality in print and paper, making it enjoyable to read daily. While the primer serves as a comprehensive introduction, some readers noted that it may not sufficiently cover openings, which is a minor drawback for those specifically seeking that aspect.
