Puzzles & Games Editorial Review
De Bellis Antiquitatis Version 3.0 is regarded as a great starter book for those interested in ancient and medieval gaming. The rules are short, concise, and easy to learn and play. The game offers grand tactical strategy with an army of only 40-50 figures, making it an excellent way to get into miniature gaming. The latest version of the well-known ancients miniatures wargaming sets is similar to the organization of earlier rules. While some may argue that it could be made more detailed, the fact that it offers a relatively easy flow of play and the ability to field playable armies without a huge expense adds to its charm. The rule book is of high quality with numerous examples and an extensive army list. The game has a fast and fun nature, with a game often taking about half an hour. Some users have expressed difficulty in finding local players, but it is still played at various game conventions around the Bay Area. The game also offers the ability to play online using Tabletop Simulator, with many 3D armies to pick from.
