The Annotated Emerson Hardcover is a large coffee table book with unwieldy size for reading. The notes focus on comparing phrases between essays and journals, which can be repetitive and not illuminating. The book contains full-page portraits and photographs that take up unnecessary space. While the introductory essays are good, the annotations lack depth and more important essays are omitted. The Norton Critical Edition and Library of America edition offer more material and better reading experience. Overall, the book is more suitable for display than for reading.
